Costa Rica is a hugely popular vacation destination in Central America. It has a little something for everyone, but one of its top attractions is rarely mentioned in travel circles - the food.
For the outdoors enthusiast, it is hard to argue that Costa Rica is anything other than a slice of heaven on earth. Like to surf? It has some of the epic surf spots on the Pacific Coast. Windsurfing your thing? Just head to the lakes surrounding the dormant volcano known as Arenal. River rafting can be found in the same areas and it goes without saying that hiking is more or less a matter of pulling over to the side of the road, throwing on some shoes and heading off down some meandering trail.
The sheer glory of the outdoor possibilities can overshadow the other things Costa Rica and the Ticos have to offer. The people, Ticos, are friendly as can be. They also have some excellent food. Being located in Central America, you are going to find the usually concoctions with rice, beans and what have you. They can also do magical things with plantains.
What I really want to focus on, however, is the Costa Rican steak. If you think you've had a good steak in Europe or the America, you are in for a surprise. You are eating the equivalent of a tire tread compared to what you can find down south. Argentina is by far the king of the mouth watering steak. Kobi beef in Japan is excellent, but not on the scale of a steak in Argentina.
The good news is Costa Rica comes in a mighty close second to Argentina when it comes to steaks. They are full of flavor, mouth watering and tender. These are free range cows who are grass fed. No hormones to make them big and tough. Trust me, you will be able to taste the difference. Even better, this superior steak is available at your average restaurant. It isn't a specialty you have to pay top dollar for. Just pull up to the local eatery and have a bite.
One quick word of warning about a steak dinner in Costa Rica. The local establishment may suggest you have a shot of Guaro. Beware the Guaro! It is a bit stronger than tequila, but with an extra side effect. Some people get rashes from it. All and all, it should probably be avoided unless you are dining next to a hospital!
If you love a good steak, a vacation to Costa Rica is going to come with some seriously delicious meals. Enjoy!
For us, Halloween was here. Some of the older folks were concerned about tomorrow night, which was really Halloween night. We had been told, "Tomorrow night you are not leaving this house." The story was the same with all of us. There was a conspiracy among the older folks. They had it in their heads to spoil our tricking, but our plans were already made,lv necklace, and we had taken what our folks had said into account. We would do our tricking on this night, the night before Halloween and forget about the treats of tomorrow night. Our plan was for all of us to get out of the house as quickly as we could after supper. If your folks raised suspicions, then you were to sneak out before supper. After all, what is a meal missed when the fun of Halloween was about to begin?
Just before supper, Wizzer gave our signal then hollered for me from outside the kitchen door just like we had planned. Mom never could say no to Wizzer. I had never told Wizzer about this, but one day I had heard Mom say that she felt sorry for him, what with him being a change of life baby and all. It wasn't my intent to spy on her. This particular conversation was overheard at one of her gabfests with her friend Julia. I was only trying to do what I had been trying to do with no luck at all for as long as I could remember. Namely, it was to see Mrs. Wetzel sleeping and doing something that took some watching and being careful. Just now, they was pitting and peeling peaches and getting them ready for canning.
