Staying Safe Is The Name Of The Game On Building Sites
Most fatalities and injuries happen on a building site when workers fall off the side of it. This can be caused by so many things happening but contractors who want to protect their workers must always install safety rails or a guardrail to try to prevent this occurrence. Indeed, these falls make up the majority of all injury or death claims on building sites around the world.
Everyone knows what building sites look like. Debris and tools are littered just about everywhere and the workers move like ants over the building. It is easy then for one or more of them to trip or stumble over something that should have been cleaned up or put away. If they are on top of the building, over they go and serious consequences must follow. Also, building sites are renowned for people messing about and joking and this too often causes some accidents to occur.
One way of ensuring that these accidents are kept to a minimum is to ensure that all tools and debris are cleared up as soon as they are finished with. One person or more should be charged with just keeping the site in good order since this will enable the other workers to move around freely.
Tools too should be kept in one central point when they are not in constant use since the cables or accessories to these make people fall or trip over too. Even wood which has been ripped out of the building should be cleared immediately too or at least be stripped of any nails and screws right away. Ask any worker who has jumped down onto a six- inch nail how he likes it and the answer will be very obvious. There are not many safety shoes which can withstand the force of a human body coming down on a nail and it is the foot which sustains the damage. Sometimes the bone can be severed too so this is really a difficult accident to deal with.
Some workers too have the unfortunate habit of joking around when they work. This inability to take the work seriously may make the day go quicker and be more fun,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but if someone gets killed because of it, they soon realize that this could have been their own demise. Indeed,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], some of them get so boastful that they think that they are indestructible and that they do not need any equipment or guidelines to keep them in good order. Big mistake!
Scaffolding is also another place where,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], if it is not constructed properly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], accidents are bound to occur. Even tying off the structure to the building is sometimes overlooked but the whole thing can collapse if nothing is done to safeguard it. Wobbling walkways or shaky ladders are accidents just waiting to happen so getting these simple things sorted out is an absolute must.
Finally, anyone working from a roof or on a high flat wall must be anchored with ropes and pulleys to stop them falling off. They usually require two workers or more to be in this kind of team too so that each can take care of the other.
