Friday, Southside hosts Fayetteville with a berth in the 7A championship at stake.
"Right about the last week, I knew I would be coming here," [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] said. "Of course, any running back would make that decision. They run the ball (here)."
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] sought emotional support from his teammates.
"I look at them as family members, and no matter what you're going through, they're going to be there no matter what," [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] said. "We're really close."
But all it takes is a sliver of a crease and [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] is off to the races. He had runs of at least 60 yards that spurred comeback wins at West Memphis and Fayetteville earlier this season. Last week, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns in the Rebels' quarterfinals victory against Cabot.
"Really, I was closer to him than my dad," he said. "He taught me to hunt and fish."
"One of my first memories was at spring practice," tackle Austin Moreton said. "He came over to the coaches complaining about his ankle,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the next thing you know he busted one for about 60. I thought then, ‘Wow, this kid can fly.'"
Southside coach Jeff Williams said the relationship between [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] and the offensive line has helped on Friday nights.
At 5-foot-8, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] is hardly the biggest or strongest running back in the 7A-West. Sometimes, the Southside running back hardly stands out at all.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] played at Spiro as an eighth-grader. He returned to Fort Smith the following summer, where as a ninth-grader he ran roughshod in the River Valley Conference for the Kimmons Raiders. The following spring, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] elected to attend Southside.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] got his feet wet last season by filling in for Lee Hollis during the Rebels' playoff run. This season as the team's go-to back, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] is averaging 7.1 yards per carry and has scored 21 touchdowns, including 20 on the ground.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]' grandfather, Cecil Dawson, died earlier this year. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] said losing his mentor was one of the most difficult things he's faced.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] began impressing his teammates immediately.
"He's got a great personality and we're a close team," Williams said. "He also reads (the blocks) well and understands how the line blocks."

Back Races To Front
"We didn't really know what he could do, and at first we were sort of skeptical," center Dakota Smith said. "(But) I promise you, no one works harder than he does. He's always praising us."
Not long after that, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] formed an immediate bond with his teammates.
