How Does Ridley Scott's Robin Hood Compare to Past Renditions?
A huge letdown to the movie it that it's rated PG-13. The movie prides itself from the trailers, that it's made by and starring the same people that gave us Gladiator, a very good movie that had tons of bloody action. Naturally, that feeling of carnage came back to us when we found this out, only to be let down when it was announced as being appropriate for teens also. And it's not as if the violence in Robin Hood is lite; it's almost pushing for an R rating. It feels as if they originally had that, but then decided to re-edit and tone down the violence to get more people to come and see the movie. Which was a bad bet, because honestly, more violence would have helped the movie. Because there's not much else there.

Robin Hood Movie Review: Lull Before The Legend
Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott Reunite for Robin Hood
Final Thoughts: Dull [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], overly long and sometimes nonsensical, Robin Hood is nothing you need to charge to theaters to see right away. Or anytime soon, at all.
In truth, not well. This is mostly due to the fact that this particular Robin Hood is a prequel to the story we all know, the story of Robin of Loxley stealing from Prince John and giving to the poor. However, the film doesn't tell you this, and it treats the characters like it's all a side story, like a hypothetical "what if Robin Hood was a soldier instead of a thief?" view. And because it does this so well, you naturally don't fight it, and go along. That is, until the last ten minutes of the movie, where they let you know that this is actually all a precursor to Robin's pilfering days. And then, in big bold text, it leaves you with "And the legend begins". As if to rub in your face that you've been fooled all this time.
In 13th century England, Robin (Crowe) and his band of marauders confront corruption in a local village and lead an uprising against the crown that will forever alter the balance of world power. Whether he is thief or hero, one man from humble beginnings becomes an eternal symbol of freedom for his people.
Robin Hood is a 2 out of 5.

The movie opens up with Marion shooting an arrow at the Lost Boys from Peter Pan [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and already you can tell something's wrong. Where's Robin? When did Marion learn to shoot? Not to be sexist, but her character is the damsel-in-distress type, through and through. It gets worse, as she takes up a sword, armor and a horse and rides into a full-on battle between the English and the French. Apparently, all you need to be able to fight in the Army is the ability to pick up your weapon: no training [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], no physical regime, no knowledge whatsoever.
Crowe Gives a Flat, Familiar Robin Hood
Crowe does the same old schpiel he's done in his other movies, talking in his same tone all the way through and occasionally raising his voice. Mark Strong puts on a good performance as the villainous Godfrey, but by this point, if Strong couldn't play a good bad guy, he'd be all washed up. Isaac is the film's Prince John, and he does very well. But perhaps a little too well; they wrote him to be very whiny and weak in an attempt to get the idea across that he's not a good person, and thus, not a good leader. But looking back on Commodus, the antagonist from Gladiator, he was a bad person, sure. But he still had a commanding and threatening presence as Rome's leader. He may have been sick and warped, but he was still a powerful character. Prince John in Robin Hood, on the other hand, you just want to laugh at him.
