Japan-based brand notebook vendors Toshiba, Sony and Fujitsu are all expected to increase the ratios of outsourced notebooks to Taiwan-based ODM makers in 2011 in order to strengthen their product competitiveness,hospitality solution, according to sources at Taiwan notebook makers.

Toshiba is likely to increase the outsourcing ratio to 80-90% in 2011, as Sony will jack up the ratio to over 90%,health care outsourcing, the sources noted. Fujitsu will also raise the outsourcing ratio in 2011. Fujitsu‘s ratio of outsourced notebooks will reach about 50% in 2010,Data convention outsourcing, the sources noted.

Taiwan ODM makers Compal Electronics and Inventec each will receive 30-40% ODM orders to be released from Toshiba in 2011, while Quanta Computer and Pegatron Technology will receive 10-15% of Toshiba‘s orders each, the sources estimated.

Toshiba shipped nine million notebooks in the first half of 2010.

Meanwhile, Quanta will also obtain orders for 3.5-4 million notebooks from Sony in 2011, and Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) and Wistron each will see orders for 2-2.5 million units, the sources pointed out. Sony‘s notebook shipments totaled 3.6 million units in the first half of 2010.

In 2011, Fujitsu will continue to outsource notebook production to Quanta and Inventec, and will add Wistron as a new supplier. However, Fujitsu is expected to outsource the majority of its notebook orders to Quanta with small volumes for Inventec and Wistron, the sources indicated. Fujitsu shipped 1.6 million notebooks in the first half of this year.
